Snowfall Totals

For goodness sakes, people, it's only snow. The soft city folk and transplants love some good apocalypse talk any time the clouds threaten to spit out some white fluff. The Blizzard of 2010 definitely set some snowfall records. Elizabeth, New Jersey earned the top total of 31.8 inches of snow, enough to envelope most 5-year-olds. Congrats! Fairfield County, Connecticut got between 11 and 16 inches of snow, and counties northward got even less as the storm headed northeast. Massachusetts ranged from 4 to 17 inches.

At least the storm was well timed. If only it were better snowman making snow ...

The threat of snow forced the postponement of an NFL football game and has forced the closure of airports and halted public transportation.

Snow fell as far south as Jacksonville, Florida over the holiday and areas further north recorded moderate snowfall. Huntsville, Alabama saw 6 inches of snow; Raleigh, North Carolina saw 8.5 inches and Gatlinburg, Tennessee recorded 8.0 inches.

Central Park has reported 13 inches and Brooklyn 17.5 inches. In New Jersey Atlantic City reported 15.7 earlier this morning but that total has since climbed to 19 inches. Foxboro, Massachusetts has seen 11.5 inches.

New York’s LaGuardia Airport and J.F.K. International Airport shut down yesterday and are not expected to open until 4:00pm EST. Amtrak canceled rail service between Boston and New York over the weekend and will resume a limited schedule today.

Limited subway service in New York City is expected however those trains that are running are experiencing problems. Yesterday a train got stuck and left 500 passengers stranded. High winds coupled with the falling snow will create treacherous conditions across the region.
